Building charging infrastructure that supports the road to 2030

For AA Logistik, electrification is not a pilot project. It is a clear long-term ambition. The goal is a fully electrified fleet by 2030. When the decision was made to build a new logistics facility, investing in charging infrastructure became a natural part of the plan.

“Our ambition has been clear for a long time. When we knew we were building a new site, it made sense to make the charging investment there from the start.”

Economics, energy and new complexity

As for many hauliers, the main uncertainties have been financial – both in terms of investment and operational costs.

“Electric trucks are still significantly more expensive than fossil alternatives. Customers are generally positive to electrified transport, but not always willing to pay more. That means the business case needs to be built gradually, in close dialogue with customers.”

Being able to guarantee electrified transport has also been a challenge. As the fleet grows, it becomes easier – and a stronger sales argument.

Energy has been a new and complex area.

“Suddenly you need to understand capacity charges, high-voltage subscriptions and substations. It is a complicated process, and we are still learning.”

Creating value beyond the own fleet

The investment has already created tangible value.

“We can now finally show our own charging site – not only for our own vehicles, but also open to external hauliers.”

AA Logistik has built the site to support others as well, including a night zone where external operators can handle overnight transhipment, with access to rest areas, toilets and showers for drivers.

“We talked early about ‘friendly charging’. We truly believe it is needed for the transition to work in practice – for us and for other hauliers.”

Conclusion

AA Logistik has built more than charging infrastructure. They have built a platform for electrification, learning and collaboration – with a clear path towards 2030.
